Peter Crouch thinks it “makes sense” for Manchester United to use Jesse Lingard in a partial trade deal to sign Chelsea’s main midfield target this summer.

Lingard has scored three times in four appearances for West Ham since completing a loan movement in January.

The midfielder found himself completely out of favor with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, his shift to East London has given him a new life.

United so far they have shown no signs of wanting to separate from the England man permanently.

However, former Liverpool striker Crouch believes some sort of trade deal for Chelsea’s £ 80 million target Declan Rice should be in the offing.

The Red Devils have shown a lot of interest in Rice themselves for the past year. Chelsea’s interest, meanwhile, was mainly due to Frank Lampard’s admiration for the player.

But with Lampard gone, it’s unclear if new Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has Rice in the same vein.

That could leave the door open for United to rush in, and they have the perfect negotiating tool at Lingard.

It’s well-informed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in signing a new defensive midfielder, and Crouch thinks Rice is perfect.

Rice made for a top club

“I love Declan Rice,” Crouch told his Daily mail column. “I have some friends who are West Ham fans and want the club to break the bank, make him captain of the club and do whatever it takes to keep him there for the next 15 years.

“He is a brilliant player and could play for any of the best teams.

“‘His suggestion makes sense for United. Lingard needs to get away as his time at Old Trafford is up, while Rice is the type of player United needs to add.

“Would West Ham make that deal? I’m not so sure. We’ll see what happens. “

Solskjaer is expected to receive a transfer budget of around £ 150 million this summer, should United seal a place in the Champions League.

However, buying Rice in a direct cash deal would consume half that amount, so a Lingard plus a cash deal would be a viable option.
