We saw last week that Man United fans were delighted to see their former goalkeeper Sam Johnstone put on a great performance to deny Liverpool, so tonight it is Steve Bruce’s turn to receive the applause.
His Newcastle side were very lucky to escape with a point against Liverpool tonight after an inspired performance by Karl Darlow, but that means Man United are only three points behind with one game less.
It is highly unlikely that they will manage to beat Aston Villa by the nine goals required to take first place, but it is quite incredible to think that they could be on top together if they can take all three points of the game.

All the negative results this season have been met with speculation about the work of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and it did not seem like the club had progressed at times, but it made them title contenders whether they want to admit it or not.
They have Steve Bruce and Newcastle to thank for preventing Liverpool from winning tonight, but part of the reaction to the former United defender might be a bit too enthusiastic….
Can we build a statue for Steve Bruce? @Man Utd #MUFC

All former Manchester United players try to help @Man Utd win league this year. From Sam Johnstone to Steve Bruce. Now it’s up to United’s board of directors to sign some key players in Jan TW and give the title a shot.

Obviously, it’s all fun and hopefully not completely serious, but it makes you wonder who will be the next former player or manager to do their old club a favor.
