Player recruitment expert David Webb has urged Manchester United and Liverpool to make a move for RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano.
The center-back has linked up with most of the best clubs in Europe after some hugely impressive performances for the Bundesliga side.
Webb, who has held recruiting positions with players like Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth, has followed Upamecano’s progress since he first saw him play for France U17.
“His pedigree in recent years has made him an excellent central defender, given his physical profile, and he feels very comfortable on the ball,” Webb said. Sky sports.
“He is a player who likes to defend a lot, something you don’t see very often in the modern game. He has those old-fashioned warrior traits where he likes to defend first and play second.
“He feels very comfortable with the ball, he can play from behind and he can break lines with passing, something that many of the best teams look at, but above all he likes to defend.
“Also given their current contractual situation at the moment, it is attractive to both parties looking to add quality in defensive areas.”
Vista SL – Dayot Upamecano
Upamecano is one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe right now, and it’s not hard to see why.
He was a dominant presence in Leipzig’s run to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season and has continued in the same vein this season.
Bringing a top center back to United or Liverpool could make the difference between winning the silver medal or failure in the coming seasons.
Both clubs have struggled with injuries to central defenders and need to get stronger in that area.
Upamecano’s £ 40 million release clause certainly represents good value in a market where quality advocates can be hard to find.
