Manchester City face stiff competition for the conquest of Erling Haaland after a European giant allegedly ‘initiated contact’ with his agent, Mino Raiola.

Haaland has smashed the goals for Borussia Dortmund and for Red Bull Salzburg before them. Since switching to Germany two years ago, the 21-year-old striker has scored 76 goals in the same number of matches.

The Norwegian national team player has been held back by hip problems in this campaign, which has limited him to 12 Bundesliga matches. However, his goal score has not been slowed down, with 13 goals at that time.

Haaland has a € 75 million (£ 63 million) release clause which will be activated in the summer. Several top clubs are going to fight for his services, including City and Real Madrid.

Dortmund aims to ward off interest by tying Haaland to a new contract. Discussions with Raiola can begin as early as next week.

However, it may not be enough if the lure of a true elite European side comes into play.

According to Sports Illustrated, citing German outlet Picture, The Bundesliga titans Bayern have declared their interest in Haaland.

They have apparently started contacting Raiola about the player’s transfer. Fortunately for City and Pep Guardiola, it is not a guarantee that Bayern will pursue Haaland.

Haaland future influenced by Lewandowski

They will refrain from doing so if current talisman Robert Lewandowski signs a new agreement. The 33-year-old’s current terms expire in 2023.

City are confident they can win the race for the Leeds-born star. His father, Alf-Inge, played 45 games for the club between 2000 and 2003.

Citizens reckon that this exciting relationship will be the key to securing Haaland’s signature.

Spanish clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid can not be ruled out. While in Marbella recently, Haaland was approached by fans in connection with his next move. he said allegedly: “I want to play here in Spain.”

City are preparing a huge offer for the Flamengo man

Meanwhile, City are reportedly on the hunt Flamengo star Matheus Franca.

The 17-year-old midfielder has made waves this season with Flamengo, where he has scored two goals and added two assists from 20 games.

He attracts the attention of a host of clubs across Europe, with Real Madrid already keeping a close eye on him.

However, as per Bolavip, it is City who are most likely to pick up the player. They write that the Blues ‘offer a truck with money’ to tempt Flamengo to his sale.

They reportedly like ‘talents on his profile’ and ‘will not measure effort’ to ensure they secure his signature.

City have also already contacted representatives of the player.
