Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti congratulated Manchester City and declared them champion-elect after runaway Premier League leaders achieved a 3-1 victory at Goodison Park.

City opened a 10-point gap over second-place neighbors Manchester United after a strong performance against Everton on Wednesday, with goals from Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva.

The Everton star Richarlison didn’t have a draw in the first half, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Toffees from falling to a second straight loss at Merseyside in four days, following a 2-0 loss to Fulham on Sunday.

City have won their last 12 league games, 17 in all competitions, and Ancelotti sees no team stopping Pep Guardiola’s high-flying side from claiming a fifth Premier League trophy and the seventh English national crown.

“I think so. It’s really hard to say another name,” Ancelotti said.

“Man City, right now, is in a good mood. They have a fantastic quality, they have faith, they are strong.

“We tried to put the game on the strong side but it was difficult against Rodrigo, against [Ruben] Days, against [Aymeric] Laporte “.

The victory means that City is the first team in English history to win 10 top flight matches to start a calendar year.

City have not lost a minute in their last 16 league games, with Arsenal being the only team to improve that streak (19 games in 1998-99) in the Premier League era.

Closing out his fifth Premier League win in a decade, Ancelotti has no doubts that City are the best team his Everton side has faced this season.

“Absolutely, yes, congratulations to them,” he added.

After a third consecutive loss in the league, Everton have slipped to seventh place in the table ahead of Saturday’s Merseyside derby against rival Liverpool at Anfield.

Everton are three points behind the Reds with a game in hand, and Ancelotti insisted his players must leave behind quickly last week.

“We have no regrets tonight, the regrets were against Fulham,” he said. “It is an exciting game, we know how important this game is for our fans.

“We know everything we need to try to get the result on Saturday.”
