Manchester United have reportedly contacted David Alaba’s agent when Bayern Munich showed up to confirm that he will be leaving them.
Alaba is in the final year of his contract with Bayern, where he has spent most of his professional career and won the Champions League last season.
The 28-year-old is still a regular for German champions, but their time together seems to be coming to an end. Alaba is not expected to extend his contract.
Therefore, he will be able to negotiate with other clubs from next month, with a view to joining them next season.
The Premier League could be a possible destination for the Austria international. For example, Chelsea is one of the clubs that their agent Pini Zahavi is considering.
However, it has now emerged that both Manchester United and Manchester City are on the hunt. According to AS, the two rivals have made formal contact with Zahavi.
Man Utd is the most likely suitor, as they are looking for a cheaper alternative to Dayot Upamecano. RB Leizpig’s defender is coming out of his price range, while Alaba could be a bargain.
The Bayern man can play as a central or left-back, so he could be useful in multiple roles.
However, some of the best clubs know this. The report adds that Real Madrid have identified Alaba as the perfect successor to Sergio Ramos, who is in the later stages of his career.
Ramos has been an incredible servant for Madrid, so they will have to find a way to replace his leadership at the back. That could point them towards Alaba.
Barcelona and PSG are also suggested as contenders for Alaba, as well as Chelsea. But Real Madrid and Manchester United seem to be leading the race right now.
Bayern confirm Alaba’s plans
Over the weekend, Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge explained his club’s version of events in his efforts to keep Alaba.
Rummenigge revealed that Alaba did not accept his lucrative offer of a new contract before the deadline they had set.
“Bayern did everything they could to try to reach an agreement,” Rummenigge said. Brand.
“We had a lot of conversations, but we wanted answers from him by the end of October.
“This did not happen and I do not know if we will return to negotiations.
“What I want to make clear is that our offer showed exactly how much we value him, but he did not accept it.”
