Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte has changed his mind and does not want to attack Manchester United for Jesse Lingard, according to a report.
Previous speculations claimed that Conte had assigned Lingard target firm loans this month.
What’s more, the enthusiastic reports about the midfielder allegedly reached the Italian manager’s direction. Former United stars Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young, who worked with Lingard at Old Trafford, had advised Conte.
However, according to Calciomercato, the manager has made a U-turn.
The source claims that Lingard’s proposal has not come to life and appears to be fading.
Indeed, Conte and Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta have become “very cautious” about the financial impact of the coronavirus.
Calciomercato He adds that Inter’s rejection makes them the second club to have rejected a move by Lingard.
It was offered to city rivals, AC Milan the 28 year old at the summer market. However, they chose not to go ahead.
As such, United is struggling to find interest in Lingard, who remains frozen in United.
The midfielder has only played three games this season, two of them in the Carabao Cup. What is more telling, however, is that he has yet to appear in the Premier League, and has only entered the bank five times.
As such, his future looks uncertain as his contract runs out in the summer of 2022. The Red Devils activated their 12-month extension option in December.
Lingard was a key part of United’s setup ahead of the 2018 World Cup. But after raising his profile even further by showing up at the tournament for England, his playing time has since regressed.
Lingard has a key transfer request
In addition to moving to Italy, speculation has emerged about Lingard’s change in the Premier League.
In fact, Sheffield United has been touted as a potential suitor.
But according to Athletic, Lingard does not want to move to the South Yorkshire club.
