James Garner was able to earn a future at Manchester United thanks to his development on loan, according to an expert.
Garner is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest for the remainder of the season. The championship team originally took him in January 2021, and he put in enough effort that all parties found it best to extend their association by another year.
But the parent club Man Utd only accepted the decision after extending Garner’s contract first. They have tied him up until 2024.
And there is a chance he will be able to achieve the grade when he returns to Old Trafford.
Garner delivered a positive performance for Forest in their FA Cup victory over proprietors Leicester City On Sunday. In fact, the Man Utd man registered an assist and sent in the corner to his team’s third goal, which captain Joe Worrall scored.
It was one of the few contributions that caught the attention of former Premier League defender Martin Keown on co-comments for the match for BBC.
Keown said (as transcribed by Metro): “Again, set piece, the ball in from Garner is an absolute beauty. Look at the whip on it.
“You can not underestimate the quality that Garner puts in this box. He is on loan from Manchester United. They should consider getting him back soon!
And the pressure on if he thinks United should accept encouragement from Garner, the expert added: “I do.
“I like the way he is developing and growing as a player. Second year here on loan you can see the development. He is definitely playing with a lot more confidence right now.”
James Garner earns Man Utd future, as opposed to teammate
While James Garner may be on his way back to Manchester after his loan spell, another midfielder will leave United forever.
Man Utd have agreed to finally sell midfielder Andreas Pereirawho will sign for Flamengo on a permanent deal according to a report.
The 26-year-old moved to Old Trafford as a youngster in 2012 and subsequently rose in rank. In fact, he made his debut in August 2014 under then-manager Louis van Gaal.
Since then, however, Pereira has only played 74 more games for United. Sixty-three of them came in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons when he formed an important part of the first team.
But on both sides of these spells, he has spent time on loan in Granada, Valencia, Lazio and Flamengo. Lazio tried to sign Pereira permanently last summer, but negotiations with United did not go ahead.
The midfielder then switched to Flamengo on a season-long loan last summer. The Brazilian club has since tried to sign the midfielder permanently in recent months.
Reports have claimed that Flamengo sent club managers to England over the weekend to discuss a deal with United. And according to UOL Sportboth sides had successful negotiations and actually reached agreement.
The two parties agreed terms for 75 percent of Pereira’s economic rights. Such a transfer model is common in South America.
However, the Premier League prohibits its clubs from participating in co-ownership of players. As such, it remains where the other 25 percent of the player’s financial rights will go.
Nevertheless, Man Utd will earn € 14million (£ 12million) on Pereira’s permanent sale.
