It is fair to say that most of the talk at this early stage of the season has been about Arsenal.
The Gunners started their campaign with consecutive league defeats to Brentford and Chelsea before winning 6-0 against West Brom in the Carabao Cup.
Despite this victory in the middle of the week, the pressure continues to rise on Mikel Arteta as he looks to get Arsenal’s Premier League campaign back on track.
The challenge will not get any easier this weekend as the Gunners face the defending champions.
Manchester City have also been in the news this week as their pursuit of Harry Kane ended. Their lack of picking up a striker leaves Guardiola with limited options up front.
However, that didn’t seem to stop them too much last weekend as they beat Norwich City 5-0.
If you look at the odds prior to Saturday’s meeting, it is the Gunners who give value to 10/1. In fact, bookmakers have more faith that England will win the World Cup in 2022 than Arsenal manage to take all three points against City.
Instead of looking at the direct market, it is better to try your luck elsewhere. For example, 22 of the last 23 matches between these clubs have shown a goal in the first half.
With that in mind, our tip is to back up a goal to be scored inside opening 30 minutes at 4/6.
Last three matches
Arsenal 0-1 Manchester City (Premier League – 21 February 2021)
Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the match when these two sides last met.
The striker opened the scoring in the second minute as the visitors insisted on taking all three points.
Arsenal 1-4 Manchester City (Carabao Cup – 22 December 2020)
There were far more goals when these two clubs last met in the Carabao Cup.
Gabriel Jesus fired City ahead as Alexandre Lacazette equalized just before the break.
The second half belonged to the visitors as goals from Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte sealed a comprehensive 4-1 victory.
Manchester City 1-0 Arsenal (Premier League – 17 October 2020)
The last time this match took place at the Etihad, it was City who took all three points.
Once again, it was Sterling who won the winner and scored in the 23rd minute.
Last ten head-to-heads
Manchester City winner: 9
Arsenal wins: 1
Manchester City goals: 23
Arsenal’s missing players
Those who call on Mikel Arteta’s head should perhaps take a look at the attacking options he has at his disposal in the first two games of the season.
Gunners had to put 20-year-old Folarin Balogun in front of Brentford when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lazacette withdrew earlier in the day due to illness.
Against Chelsea, it was another 20-year-old, this time Gabriel Martinelli, who started the match as the lone striker.
It was not until Arsenal’s match this week against West Brom when we finally saw a much-needed quality in attack.
Aubameyang marked his return with a hat trick and an assist, but it was not just the Gabonese farmer who made the difference. The inclusion of newly signed Martin Odegaard rejuvenates a former anonymous Arsenal midfielder.
The return of quality players seemed to bring out the best in Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe, who clearly enjoyed themselves throughout the meeting.
Despite the nature of this victory, there are still many questions, especially as the victory came against a very changed West Brom side that clearly prioritized the championship. Man City, on the other hand, wants to be a completely different animal.
Nevertheless, the fact that Arsenal have some quality left and they have finally managed to break their goalless run increases our interest in the target market.
The Gunners have scored just four goals in their last ten games against Man City. But with odds of 10/11, this may be the perfect opportunity to take on the bookmakers.
No Kane, no problem
You would think that the lack of a world-class goal scorer would prove problematic for the citizens. However, a 5-0 win over Norwich showed that this is a side with goals everywhere in the park.
And the gaping hole in front could be more than ample if Cristiano Ronaldo’s proposed move to the Etihad is confirmed.
But before any move is signed, sealed and delivered, the Citizens will be determined to maintain their incredible run against the Gunners.
Guardiola’s men have won 10 of their last 11 matches against Arsenal; seven of them to zero.
However, the hosts will be without Phil Foden, Kevin de Bruyne and Benjamin Mendy, who have recently been suspended by the club.
Despite Arsenal’s matches too late, this could be much closer than most people think. Moreover, the profit margin on a target is also well priced for 10/21 with Planet Sport Bet.
Goal scorer betting
Raheem Sterling loves to play against Arsenal. The English national team player has scored eight goals against the Gunners in his career.
6/5 o’clock, he certainly offers a decent value in the goal scoring market at all times.
From Arsenal’s perspective, the man at the back is Aubameyang.
His hat trick against West Brom finally gave fans something to get excited about. What’s more, on 10/3 The Gabon star offers great value in betting.
