Manchester City have been linked with an ambitious summer raid for Tottenham talisman Harry Kane in an attempt to find a replacement for the aging all-time top scorer, Sergio Agüero.
Aguero will turn 33 before the start of next season and injury problems in recent months have limited him to just six Premier League appearances since March, and no goals.
A new forward is a top priority for City in 2021 and there are doubts within the club whether Gabriel Jesus has enough to take on the mantle in the long run.
Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland has been identified as a target and City are considered favorites to land the Norwegian, whose father played for the club in the early 2000s.
In private, Haaland has yet to make a decision about his future, while in public he has even made a short-term commitment to Dortmund by insisting that he is not ready to move on so soon.
The city would be foolish if it didn’t at least weigh other options and Bild’s reporter Christian falk has stated that a £ 90 million summer deal is being planned for Kane.
Still without winning a major career trophy, the England captain earlier this year refused to rule out leaving the Spurs if his silver prospects would improve vastly elsewhere.
“I love the Spurs, I will always love the Spurs, but I have always said that if I don’t feel like we are progressing as a team or going in the right direction, I am not someone to stay there for the sake of it. ”He said at the time.
The club has shown promise with José Mourinho in the first half of 2020/21, but a possible challenge for the Premier League title has stalled in recent weeks and Spurs have fallen back down the table after winning just one of their last six league games.
Kane’s own numbers this season are very impressive. He has 29 combined goals and assists his name in just 23 appearances in all competitions and currently leads the Premier League in assists (10), having developed his game to become a more complete player.
But £ 90 million seems like a good thing if City are serious about hiring Kane. He has a long-term contract in North London that runs through the summer of 2024 and the Spurs would be extremely reluctant to sell it to another Premier League club, whatever the price.
