Liverpool is considering making an offer for Matthias Ginter to increase his defensive depth, according to a report.
The injuries suffered by Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip this season have shown why Liverpool need more options on defense. They have had to rely on out-of-position players and academy graduates. Nat Phillips has taken a particular step forward recently. But a new signing may still come.
Liverpool are not expected to convert the loan of Ozan Kabak from Schalke into a permanent loan. As such, they will be considering targeting another defender in the summer.
It has been thought that Ibrahima Konate will be that player. There have been many rumors about the transfer of the RB Leipzig headquarters to Merseyside.
But there are doubts about how much your release clause is really worth. If it is too high for Liverpool, they may need to consider cheaper alternatives.
One option, depending on Todofichajes, it would be Ginter. The German international will be out of contract with Borussia Monchengladbach in 2022. If they can’t get him to renew soon, they will sell him this summer.
That could represent an opportunity for Jurgen Klopp, who signed Ginter for Borussia Dortmund in 2014. They only worked together for one season, but they might have a chance to reunite.
Liverpool are said to have already contacted Gladbach. Ginter is ready to make the leap to a superior club and Anfield could be the perfect destination.
The 27-year-old was recently linked to a different Premier League club, Tottenham. Picture stated that there would be a sale price of 35 million euros and that The Spurs had already advanced.
The north London team is looking to strengthen defensively, improving their current options. Many of its defenders have been linked to exits, so they might need replacements.
However, Liverpool were mentioned as rivals by their signing at the time, and those ties appear to be increasing.
Liverpool linked with Leicester star
It will be an important summer for Liverpool as they look to once again be among the elite of the Premier League.
A top-four result is in their hands now, but they’ll want to aim higher next season, especially after the way they stormed the 2019-20 title.
As such, they will seek to reinforce their staff. Defense is not the only area they need to improve.
For example, they need to find more depth in the attack, especially if they lose Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane. But perhaps the most important part of the business is in the midfield.
Georginio Wijnaldum is out of contract at the end of June and there has been little progress on the renewal. Paris Saint-Germain is the last place that shows interest. It is still an important cog for Klopp though, so they will have to replace it if it leaves.
To do so, they have recently been linked with someone who has been impressing with Leicester recently.
