Liverpool decided to withdraw from the race for Dayot Upamecano for fear that he would not be a good fit alongside Virgil Van Dijk, it has been claimed.
Upamecano has established itself as one of the most promising defenders in Europe in recent years. Therefore, various clubs have shown interest in him.
Liverpool was among those who bonded, while seeking coverage for the injured Van Dijk.
Chelsea and Manchester United also wanted to take Upamecano to the Premier League. However, the French defender has chosen a different path.
Bayern Munich have announced that they have reached an agreement to sign Upamecano from RB Leipzig. He will head to Munich for the start of the next season.
It could be something that Premier League clubs will regret. The 22-year-old looks to have a great future and his value will only increase from the 42.5 million euros that Bayern have paid for him.
Liverpool, however, seem confident that they have made the right decision.
According to Aim, the Premier League champions did consider a move for Upamecano. However, it was not a serious name on her short list.
The main reason they doubted Upamecano was because he plays on the same side of a central pair as Van Dijk.
Liverpool remain hopeful that the Dutchman will return to his best when he returns from his ACL injury. Therefore, bringing in Upamecano may have been disruptive in the end.
Instead, Liverpool opted for a different Bundesliga center-back. Ozan kabak He came on loan from Schalke to cover himself until the end of the season.
If Kabak is successful in the coming months, Liverpool have the option to make that move permanent.
Chelsea had a serious interest
The report of Aim He adds that a Premier League team, Chelsea, had a very serious interest in Upamecano.
However, they are not too worried about losing it. Bayern duo Niklas Sule and David Alaba are also on their shortlist, so now it might be easier to acquire.
Sule seems the most likely target, as Alaba seems most likely to join Real Madrid.
