Liverpool booked their place in the Champions League round of 16 after beating Ajax 1-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night.
An error by goalkeeper Andre Onana helped Curtis Jones score the deciding goal of the match in the second half.
Although the visitors asked questions of Liverpool’s defense, the central defensive pair of Fabinho and Joel Matip stood their ground and ensured that Liverpool took all three points.
Fabinho, who started again at center-back, made an impressive impression during the game, and many Liverpool fans took to Twitter to comment on his performance. These are some of the selected tweets:
By the way, Fabinho is one of the best center-backs I have seen play for Liverpool in the last 20 years. Truly.

Fabinho is world class.
There are no buts or maybes.

Fabinho drops another masterclass as a central defender. pic.twitter.com/fZ74kvXxMT

So is Fabinho in the top 3 DMs in the world AND in the top 3 CBs? I see.

I know we keep saying it now, but Fabinho really continues to impress as a center-back every time he plays. He reads the game excellently, which makes up for the slight lack of pace at his disposal. Outstanding on the back, one of the best in the world 🙌 pic.twitter.com/HrvuIhbNmO

What a night for Jones and Kelleher. Also a mention for Neco, he played very well!
However, it is time for people to realize how good Fabinho is. If you made a world starting with 11, he would start on CDM and probably CB at this rate.
It is absolutely amazing!

Fabinho is crazy about the way people have to realize that he’s not a center-back and that he’s still in the top 3 center-backs in the league.

Fabinho is a world-class midfielder and a world-class center back.
That shouldn’t even be controversial. His reading of the game is unreal.

Another master class performance
Fabinho was just huge against Ajax. He made two tackles, two interceptions and eight punts according to WhoScored.com.
The 27-year-old, arguably one of the best central defensive midfielders in the world, is playing as a central defender this season for the Reds, following long-term injuries to Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk.
The Brazilian has simply looked outstanding in his new role. His ability to read the game and his brilliant passing ability from behind is adding a new dimension to the flank.
The problem with Liverpool this season is that they have to deal with a lot of injuries, and it is becoming difficult for Jurgen Klopp to have a stable starting lineup.
On defense, Klopp just can’t start with Matip every game considering his poor injury record. With the games full of strength and speed, there has been a constant rotation in the back. Against Brighton, Fabinho started alongside Natt Philips, while Rhys Williams also played in previous Champions League matches.
Liverpool will be without starting goalkeeper Alisson for Sunday’s league game with the Wolves after he suffered a hamstring injury. Caoimhin Kelleher, who replaced the Brazilian, is likely to keep his place at the wing.
