Liverpool, Chelsea left empty-handed as Upamecano’s future finally settled in

Liverpool and Chelsea’s hopes of signing defender Dayot Upamecano have come to an end after it was confirmed that he had agreed to sign for Bayern Munich.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Upamecano had the option of three clubs to join this summer.

Liverpool and Chelsea were options, and both sides were looking to strengthen their defenses before next season.

However, Bayern Munich was also in the running. The reigning European champions have long been interested in the french international.

And it is the giants of the Bundesliga who have won the race by signing, as reported by Goal.

They will pay 42.5 million euros to RB Leipzig to secure his services, and Upamecano will sign a five-year contract at the Allianz Arena.

It means that he will remain in Germany, where he has impressed for the past four years.

Bayern boss confirms deal

The news of the transfer was confirmed by Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.

When asked to certify the claims that they had gotten their man, he said: “I can do that, and we are very happy about it at FC Bayern.

“We had very good, intensive and professional discussions with Dayot and his advisor Volker Struth for many months. We knew we had very strong competition.

Salihamidzic also revealed when the Bavarians sealed the deal for Upamecano.

“Dayot Upamecano will play for Bayern for the next five years.”

Development means Liverpool and Chelsea will now have to turn her attention elsewhere.
