Liverpool are looking for a potential transfer to Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, according to reports.
Bazunu is currently on loan at Portsmouth from Man City, which he joined from Shamrock Rovers in 2019. Despite being a teenager, he already had some senior appearances to his name in Ireland. Since moving to England, he has worked his way through the ranks.
Last season, City loaned him out to Rochdale, where he played 29 games in League One. This year he plays in the third row again, for Portsmouth.
The 19-year-old impresses and has even earned 10 international appearances for his country at senior level as a result.
One of the players he competes with for the national team is Liverpool’s backup Caoimhin Kelleher. And according to a report from Sunday mirror, he could also end up taking Kelleher’s place at club level.
It is claimed that Liverpool are among the clubs that see Bazunu as a long-term solution.
The Reds have Alisson Becker as their number one and will for many years to come. But behind him in the pick order, they want to make sure they have the right opportunity.
Now Bazunu could be under consideration if City can not give him guarantees for his long-term future there.
As things stand, they aim to secure his services with a new contract. His current deal runs until 2024, but they are already working on an extension.
Like if he were to move to Liverpool, he would stand behind a Brazilian star if he were to return to the Etihad Stadium. Ederson will take some detachment from the starting role there.
But Bazunu describes his potential at a young age and will be eager to step up at some point.

Liverpool make contact with a promising defender
Liverpool’s transfer plans have been difficult to predict in recent years. They only made one signing in the summer, which was Ibrahima Konate.
But they are constantly associated with players of different descent. In addition to top talents, they regularly appear to have an eye for the future.
Their interest in Bazunu could be an example of that. It could also report interest in a 22-year-old defender impressing for Barcelona.
Reports in Spain during the week claimed Liverpool have stepped up the hunt for center-back Ronald Araujo.
In fact, they have contacted the player and his representatives, and touched base over key areas.
Liverpool, led by sporting director Michael Edwards, have offered to double their salary to € 6 million (£ 5 million) a year.
What’s more, they have, on behalf of Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, given Araujo assurances of a key role at Anfield. The defender would reportedly be assured of regular action in Liverpool’s rotating back line.
In the end, the ambition of a proper trophy hunt under Klopp has attracted the player’s attention.
However, Barcelona still want to convince him to stay as his contract expires in the summer of 2023. If they can not, they would like to sell him next summer to avoid the risk of losing him for free.
