Goal Kenya’s bid to win the seven-a-side LaLiga Media tournament came to an immature end after falling in the semifinals to eventual winners Capital FM at the Goan Institute.
The tournament, which included seven other media companies in Kenya, aimed to create good working relationships with stakeholders in the media industry.
Goal was placed in Group B with Radio Africa. Royal Media and Standard Group. They began their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Royal Media, before defeating Radio Africa 2-1. The final match was against Standard and ended 2-0 in favor of Goal.
The team went on to lead the group with maximum points, followed by Royal Media who had four points after a 2-1 win over Radio Africa and a 4-4 draw with Standard.
In Group A, Nation Media finished first with seven points, as did Capital FM which had a lower goal difference.
In the semifinals, Goal fell 2-1 to the Capital, and the latter achieved the victory in stoppages. On the other hand, Royal Media reached the final after defeating Nation 3-2 on penalties after drawing 0-0 in regulation time.
They went on to set an appointment with Capital in the final, and after a draw in the final, the latter was crowned after a 4-3 victory on penalties.
