Andrea Pirlo insists that Juventus’ never-dying spirit was to thank for their late 2-1 win over Torino in Saturday’s Derby della Mole clash.

Juve fell behind Nicolas Nkoulou’s goal in the ninth minute at Allianz Stadium and would have gone two short if Simone Zaza beat Wojciech Szczesny 1-on-1.

But the hosts bounced back late and scored two header goals off Juan Cuadrado’s crosses: Leonardo Bonucci scored a goal in the 89th minute after Weston McKennie tied 12 minutes earlier.

It was the first time Juve have won a league match in which they are at a disadvantage since November 2019 and Pirlo praised the attitude of his players to deepen and achieve a vital victory in the derby.

“When you lose all the challenges, it becomes difficult to control the game,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were too static and never filled the box when we managed to find something wide to put a cross on. It’s tough against a five-man defense.
