Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that defender Joel Matip will be out of the game for three weeks.
The Cameroonian defender injured his adductor in his last game and missed the match against Newcastle United last night.
Klopp told Mirror: “Normal with this type of injury, [he will be out for] about three weeks. “
Matip has been an excellent servant for Liverpool since he left the Bundesliga, but his injury problems are becoming a major concern for the Reds.
Regardless of his quality, the 29-year-old’s availability has been a concern for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool are already going through an injury crisis with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gómez ruled out for several months.
It will be interesting to see if they decide to dive into the January transfer market for a center-back now.
Klopp has been using untested defenders like Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams at the back in recent months. Fabinho has also held the central position.
Liverpool have been linked with players like Sven Botman, Ozan Kabak, Dayot Upamecano and David Alaba in recent weeks. It will be interesting to see who they end up signing eventually.
The Reds were one of the best teams in the country on defense last season, but that hasn’t been the case so far this season.
Liverpool have conceded 20 goals in 16 Premier League games and will have to tighten behind if they want to retain their title this season.
