Former Tottenham striker and club hero Jurgen Klinsmann has suggested that Gareth Bale’s situation at the club is “difficult to understand”.
Spurs coach José Mourinho made 10 changes to the team that won 5-0 against Marine in the FA Cup on Sunday. Despite the healthy turnaround, the north London club were limited to a frustrating 1-1 draw in the Premier League after Ivan Cavaleiro scored a late header to give the Cottagers a close draw.
Both teams attempted 15 shots during the game, but fans and experts were stumped as Mourinho did not use Gareth Bale, Dele Alli or Lucas Moura from the bench when they urgently needed a goal.
Klinsmann has also been taken aback by Mourinho’s decision. He told ESPN:
“It’s very difficult to understand Gareth Bale’s situation. If you don’t put a certain time point like Lucas Moura, Dele Alli or Gareth, you know it’s just a big question mark, why? You can’t depend too much on Son and Harry Kane “.
Vista SL: Frustrating loan move
Tottenham fans were very excited when Bale returned to his former club on loan from Real Madrid over the summer.
The Welsh winger struggled with his fitness at the start of the season, having barely played for Madrid with Zinedine Zidane in the last 18 months.
However, it appears that Bale has not done enough to convince Mourinho to use it regularly. He has made just one Premier League start, and three other appearances have come from the bench.
Bale has played a leading role in the Europa League, having started all six games.
Spurs have the option of signing Bale permanently at the end of the season, but they are unlikely to go down that path unless the Welshman makes a strong impact in the second half of the season.
