The Raiders and Patriots have a heady history, but new Las Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels certainly quickly fell in love with owner Mark Davis.

There is probably not a Raiders fan in the world who is not painfully aware of the “Tuck Rule Game”. You know, the one where Charles Woodson stripped Tom Brady in a snow-covered divisional playoff game against the Patriots, but the referees then produced Tuck Rule and said the New England quarterback stuck the ball in. Thus, it was ruled as an incomplete pass, allowing the Patriots to continue to win the game and move on.

Fast forward to January 2022, and the Raiders are now hiring Josh McDaniels, who was in his first year on the Patriots’ coaching staff in 2001, when the infamous moment occurred, to be their next head coach.

But instead of instantly creating bad blood, McDaniels’ first encounter with Raiders owner Mark Davis began with an epic statement that will immediately win fans of silver and black: “It was a fumble.”

Talk about getting fans to fall in love with you fast.

McDaniels, of course, has previously been the head coach of AFC West and spent two seasons in that role for the Broncos in what most consider a failed tenure in Denver.

With that said, he has since spent more time under Bill Belichick in New England and has, at least in his own words, learned a lot about what went wrong with the Broncos. It should at least be positive for Raiders fans to consider beyond the brilliant offensive mind he possesses.

If nothing else, but his first interaction with Mark Davis should be enough to buy him some goodwill with fans right out of hand.
