LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Chicago Bears veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will start instead of rookie Justin Fields (ribs) on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, coach Matt Nagy announced on Friday.

“As far as the match is concerned, Andy Dalton will start on Sunday, Nick Foles will be the backup,” Nagy said after training. “Justin is making good progress, just not there yet medically for clearance.”

Fields has not played since injuring his ribs against the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 21.

Despite a brief turnaround last week, Dalton played well in Chicago’s victory over the Detroit Lions at Thanksgiving. Dalton passed 317 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He became the first Bears quarterback to throw over 300 yards since Foles achieved the feat last year.

In other injury news, Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks (groin) has been ruled out and wide receiver Allen Robinson (hoarding) is doubtful to face Arizona.

Outside linebacker Roquan Smith (hoarding) returned to training – albeit in a limited way – on Friday and officially it will be a match-time decision, according to Nagy,
