In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Carlton Palmer has delivered his verdict on Chris Wilder amid Sheffield United’s poor form.
It’s safe to say the Blades are having a season to forget in 2020/21. Last trimester, they were fluent and encouraged in everything they did.
However, this time around, they look like a shadow of who they were and are at the rear in the Premier League.
The differences between this season and last are remarkable. In 2019/20, Sheffield United was excellent, getting some impressive results against some of the greats in English football.
Will Chris Wilder last the season at Sheff Utd?
I do not think so
They finished the campaign in ninth place with 54 points, just two points behind an ever-improving Arsenal.
Not much has been said about Wilder’s future in the press, but there have been loud shouts from fans at the club asking him to leave Bramall Lane.
Speaking to FFC, former Sheffield Wednesday man Palmer defended the United manager.
He told us: “I’m hearing from a lot of Sheffield United fans that I know are already criticizing Chris Wilder and I like him, wait a minute, do me a favor. Got you back-to-back promotions. He has you in the Premier League. “
The former midfielder was so strong in his defense of Wilder that he later advised him to stay in Yorkshire even if the Blades fell:
“For me, even if they get relegated this season, Chris Wilder should have a chance to bring them back. That’s what should stay at work. “ Palmer concluded.
Sheffield United will face Leicester, the Premier League leaders, before facing matches against Southampton and Manchester United.
Unfortunately, they may have to wait a bit longer before their luck turns.
