‘He is now spot on’; Redknapp reveals the biggest reason behind the dismal Kane start at Tottenham

Jamie Redknapp feels that last summer’s transfer saga was a big factor in Harry Kane’s poor form of early season, whose play is now ‘spot on’.

Kane scored his 49th England goal as Gareth Southgate’s side beat Switzerland 2-1 at Wembley on Saturday. It brought Tottenham attacker on par with Sir Bobby Charlton’s inventory. The 28-year-old has enjoyed a couple of fantastic weeks where he has scored many goals for Spurs, including a match in the win over Manchester City.

It is far from the first few months of 2021-2022. The Walthamstow-born ace could not buy a Premier League goal for the North Londoners and looked like a shadow of his former self.

He was strongly associated with a move to Manchester City during the summer of 2021. And the prolific shooter even went so far as to reveal in an interview that he was keen on a new challenge.

However, he stayed at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after City could not match Daniel Levy’s asking price. Kane was unable to lift himself out of hibernation and cut a desolate figure while out on the field.

But that has now changed and he has scored 22 goals in all tournaments for Antonio Conte’s team. He’s also just shy of half a century with England’s goals, and Redknapp feels his slow start to the campaign was understandable.

“Harry has had a tough European Championship, but the Man City element did not help when he got into it with it in the back of his mind,” he told Sky Sports.

“When the season first started, it affected him. I think now he’s in the shape of his life, everything about his game is spot on.”

Lineker praises Kane’s achievements

Kane’s next personal goal is to become England’s leading goal scorer of all time. That award is currently being awarded by Wayne Rooney, who reached 53 in a distinguished international career.

It is inevitable that Kane, if fitness allows, will jerk over the former Manchester United star’s figures. The Spurs hotshot has now moved beyond Gary Linker’s total of 48, which he had matched since scoring four against San Marino in November.

But far from being disappointed, Dagens Kamp host took to Twitter to congratulate.

“It was nice to have you company, @HKane,” he said tweeted. “Never thought it would last, but it was fun for a while.”
