The German international has been in top form and could be back for Sunday’s game at the Emirates Stadium
Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola offered a positive update on Ilkay Gundogan’s injury, saying the midfielder should be ready to face Arsenal on Sunday.
Gundogan missed Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Everton with a minor groin injury, as City recorded 17 straight wins in all competitions.
But the German international, who suffered the injury against Tottenham last weekend, looks set to make a quick comeback.
What Guardiola said about Gundogan
“It is much, much better”, Guardiola said after the game at Goodison Park.
“It is not a big problem, but to avoid risks today we have given him a few more days to recover.
But for Arsenal and Borussia Monchengladbach he should be ready.
“Of course Gundo is exceptional. We talk about it. If you want to win titles and finals, we need the whole squad.”
The hot form of Gundogan
The 30-year-old has put himself in the contention for the year-end awards with his game recently, having scored 11 goals in his last 12 Premier League games.
That tally has already surpassed his previous league goal record, set in 2018-19 when he scored six times for City.
City continues amazing race
With their victory at Goodison Park, City have won their first 10 Premier League matches of 2021. They are now the first top-flight English team to win their first 10 matches of a calendar year.
Guardiola’s team also stretched their lead to 10 points at the top of the table as they look to regain the Premier League title they lost to Liverpool last season.
What’s next for the city?
After Sunday’s game against the Gunners, City will face Borussia Monchengladbach in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday.
