Pep Guardiola suggested that Manchester City produced a would-be champion performance in their win over Chelsea.
City struggled to maintain consistency towards the start of the season but is now gathering momentum. They were dominant against a title rival in Sunday’s 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge..
Goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne in the first half bombarded Chelsea, increasing the pressure on Frank Lampard.
It was a very pleasant night for rival Guardiola, who believed his team displayed the same qualities that have made them two-time champions under his leadership.
He said Sky sports: “They push and push in the first minutes, we suffer a bit because we don’t concede almost anything except the goal in the last minute. But we play very well.
“The result is great at Stamford Bridge, but the way we played was really great. You can’t win titles without playing like this.
Chelsea, one of the strongest teams, is suffering the last game but you can see the quality of their players and the bench.
“We had a plan, we tried to play like we had in the past and it worked. The players were excellent in every way, especially with the ball.
“We cannot play like other teams, we have to play at our own pace and attack at the right time. We win titles that way, with more patience. We lost this rhythm a bit and today we had it.
“We don’t have the physique and quality of the players to make quick transitions, maybe Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne, but the others have not played with the ball. You create problems and that is what we have to do.
“From the goalkeeper to the forward we have to put the ball on the grass, make 1000 passes and choose the right moment.”

When asked if things had changed at the club, Guardiola again stated that they have rediscovered their methods of winning titles.
He added: “The same manager, the same backroom staff, the players are the same and the ideas are completely the same. The way we win leagues and titles and other things is the way we play today.
“The rhythm that we lost in the past, today we recover.”
Guardiola ‘proud’ of Phil Foden
One of City’s top scorers was Phil Foden, making his first start since December 15.
He did so in a more advanced position, and Guardiola pointed to his versatility as one of the reasons that future English football will be safe in his hands.
About the midfielder, he said: “Very proud, he never lost an iota of his energy. He can play up front in all four positions.
“He has goal sense, he scored a fantastic goal. We trust him incredibly.
“For England and the national team, he will be a first-rate player because he is very smart and calm. He did another great performance today. “
