Athletic’s Gregg Evans has revealed that Jaden Philogene-Bidace’s situation is “complicated” at Aston Villa.
What is the history?
Following the impressive performance of Villa’s youths in the FA Cup third round loss to Liverpool earlier this year, the spotlight has grown on the club’s burgeoning academy.
But in the case of Philogene-Bidace, Evans has suggested that even though the 19-year-old wants to stay at Villa Park, his contractual situation has left things uncertain.
In a question and answer session for The Athletic, wrote: “It’s a bit more complicated with Philogene-Bidace, who is now 19 years old and has no contract at the end of this season. It is up to Villa to figure it out, but I understand that he wants to stay despite speculations linking him elsewhere.
“What I would also say is that in recent years, Villa has a good track record of keeping the players he wants. There was a lot of interest in Carney Chukwuemeka, for example, but Villa tied him to a professional contract. “
Lange must act now
With rumors Hanging around in recent weeks that Bundesliga RB Leipzig is keen to lure him to Germany, the onus really falls on Johan Lange to make sure Villa doesn’t lose one of his most promising stars.
The 19-year-old enjoys a stellar season with the club’s Under-23s, Punctuation five goals and another two assists in just 11 matches at Premier League level 2.
The left-back is showing exactly why he’s one for the future, and it looks like he has all the tools in his locker to become a truly dangerous player for Villa’s senior team.
Talking to The Birmingham Post, one of his former coaches, Ahmed Abdulla, said: “He’s a right foot but he plays on the left. You can enter or exit outside. The extreme model.
“He hugs the touchline and can beat his man. (He’s) Very confident and very light on his feet and jumps tackles, none of them get hit and fall. Bounce off tackles. He is very strong and outstanding in one on one. “
Evans’ update that things are “complicated” with the teenager is troubling, and it’s up to Lange to get things going on a new contract.
Meanwhile, Villa faces a transfer disaster for another academy star …
