Leeds United has been linked to a move for Reading midfielder Michael Olise, but they face fierce competition from new favorites Crystal Palace, according to the Sunday Mirror print edition (via HITC). The Eagles are now reportedly leading the race to sign rising French talent after the Whites initially turned down an offer in the summer.
Should Leeds sign Micheal Olise from Reading?
Olise has had an impressive season in the Championship thus far, scoring four goals and seven assists in 20 appearances, according to Transfer market. These are the kinds of numbers Leeds are crying out for in their engine room, after their return to the Premier League has exposed their lack of creativity.
Olise would be a perfect fit in Leeds
Even with its successful summer transfer window, Leeds continues to rely primarily on Patrick Bamford to find the back of the net. Raphinha and Rodrigo have been improving much more recently, but Marcelo Bielsa still has a fairly weak attacking setup.
If the club rekindles its interest in Olise, he could be the ideal January recruit to support Bamford in the future. The French youth international would take the place of forgotten midfielder Adam Forshaw, who last played for the Whites in 2019. He has been sidelined with a hip injury and has, in fact two assists in your name throughout his career at Leeds.
Forshaw’s contract expires in 2022 and it seems unlikely that the club will offer him a new deal due to his poor physical condition. Plus, he’s 29, and Leeds would probably benefit from hiring someone much younger. In fact, teenage sensation Olise has shown how she could be a great asset to Bielsa after seriously impressing her fellow Championship players.
Earlier this year, Reading forward Sam Baldock praised his attacking teammate as a “Real talent” after he started making a name for himself on the Madejski.
Víctor Orta should consider making another offer for the £ 40 million midfielder before inevitably being sacked by another Premier League team.
