Getafe president Angel Torres has claimed that the LaLiga team has been offered the chance to pick up Gareth Bale following the striker’s Real Madrid departure.
Bale will officially become a free agent at the end of this month when his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he has spent the past eight seasons, officially expires.
The 32-year-old is looking for a new club to maintain his fitness after inspiring Wales for their first World Cup in 64 years with victory over Ukraine on Sunday.
It ended any talk of an early retirement where a number of clubs were credited with an interest in Bale, including the hometown team Cardiff City and teams in Major League Soccer.
However, Bale can still remain in the Spanish capital with LaLiga club Getafe finishing in 15th place in 2021-22.
At an event on Wednesday, Getafe President Torres told reporters: “I spoke to the representatives of Gareth Bale about 45 minutes ago.
“They have offered him to him. But we have to study it with our technical staff and also the sports management.”
Bale won 16 trophies in his time with Madrid, but he barely played in the 2021-22 campaign, which ended with Los Blancos winning a LaLiga and Champions League double.
He was involved in seven of Madrid’s 56 matches in all tournaments – 13 percent – of which only four were starters.
Bale confirmed his departure from Madrid last week: “I arrived here nine years ago as a young man who wanted to realize my dream of playing for Real Madrid.
“To wear the pristine white set, to wear the coat of arms on my chest, to play at the Bernabeu, to win titles and to be a part of it, it’s so famous for winning the Champions League.
“I can now look back, reflect and honestly say that this dream has come true and much, much more.
“Being a part of this club’s history and achieving what we achieved while I was a Real Madrid player has been an incredible experience and one I will never forget.
“I would also like to thank President Florentino Perez, Jose Angel Sanchez and the Board of Directors for giving me the opportunity to play for this club.
“Together we were able to create some moments that will live forever in the history of this club and football. It has been an honor.”
