The Brazilian has said he hopes to become a more prolific scorer following the departure of the legendary striker.
Gabriel Jesús has admitted that he must become more of a “real forward” as he aims to replace outgoing Sergio Agüero at Manchester City.
City confirmed on Monday that Aguero would leave the club at the end of the season, bringing him closer to a glorious 10-year stretch that made him the club’s all-time top scorer.
Jesús, who has split playing time with Agüero since joining City in 2017, is ready to take on more responsibilities after the Argentine’s departure.
What was said?
Talking to Sky sports, Jesús admitted that he needed to adjust his style to help replace a player whom he called “the best player in the history of the club.”
“I can learn a little [from him] but he’s more of a striker than me, he scored more than me, “Jesus said.
“He goes to the field and scores. He is more forward than me, I can say it because I work with him every day and play with him a lot.
“When we play together, I score one, he scores two, I score two and he scores three. I think I’m going to learn a lot in the next few years to become a real striker who scores a lot.
“I have to go more in the box. Sometimes I don’t go into the box, that’s why I don’t score much. Normally if you see the best forwards at the moment they all go to the box, some go outside.” the box to create and then go to the box.
“Not me, I think my football is … I go out of the area, I believe with my friends and I wait for the goal. Sometimes I go and score, but I have to get it into my head that when I arrive, I score.”

Jesús, who turns 24 on Saturday, has proven to be a capable substitute for Agüero at City, scoring 80 goals for the club in 183 appearances since arriving from Palmeiras.
However, Aguero has proven to be an even more prolific scorer, and City have been linked with a string of high-profile replacements for the Argentine.
Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland has been strongly associated with a move to Etihad, as well as Inter star Romelu Lukaku. Southampton forward Danny Ings has also been mentioned as a more affordable option.
Regardless, Jesús is likely to face continued competition for the City’s No. 9 spot even after Aguero has left the club.
