Former Arsenal captain William Gallas has asked his former team to show current manager Mikel Arteta the exit door amid the Gunners’ terrible form that sees them in the precarious position of 15th in the Premier League.
Gallas, now retired, played more than 100 times for Arsenal during a four-year period in which the French defender worked under former top coach Arsene Wenger.
Now, watching his old team led by former midfielder Arteta, the retired French defender, alongside Gunners fans, is forced to watch his old London team battle it out in the new 2020-21 campaign.
Despite lifting the FA Cup at the end of last season, Arteta has struggled to get his Gunners to shoot at the beginning of this season.
Currently in 15th place, winless in his last five home games in the Premier League, criticism of the Spanish tactician has inevitably climbed a bit.
In a shocking spiel to Ladbrokes, quoted by the Mirror, Gallas has become the latest name to hit Arteta.
“What is happening at Arsenal? It’s a question that I think everyone has asked this season. I do not know the answer, “ Gallas explained. “I think maybe the problem at the moment is that Mikel Arteta is not the right coach.
“For me he does not have that experience to manage a great club.
“I was surprised when he came in, to be honest, even as an assistant to Pep Guardiola, it takes coaching experience to get into a club like Arsenal.
“You have to know how to manage 24 players. All the pressure is on your shoulders and you make all the decisions.
“Some players will be upset that they aren’t playing and it’s something you need experience to deal with.”
One name that has been added to the mix to replace Arteta is Patrick Vieira, who is not only an Arsenal legend, but also a Gallas compatriot.
Speaking about the possibility of seeing the French legend taking the reins of the Emirates, Gallas said: “If I were an Arsenal player now, I think it all depends on whether you are a young player or a more experienced name. Young players will respect Arteta, but players with more experience may not. And it will start from there.
“Patrick [Vieira] he has more experience than Mikel, because he is a director in the United States and spent time in Nice. So when the Arsenal board decided to choose a new coach, I thought Patrick would get the call.
“He was captain of Arsenal and knows the club very well. Patrick was the right guy then.
“If they have to fire Mikel Arteta, they have to pick Patrick Vieira to replace him, and I’m sure all the fans will love it.”
