It was somewhat surprising when Leeds United player Robbie Gotts joined League One Lincoln City on loan before this season, but his impressive performances this season seem to suggest that the Yorkshire club made the right decision.

The 21 year old United the Imps on a season loan in October and has been a regular on Michael Appleton’s side ever since, having done seven appearances in all competitions, standing out both as a right back and as a central midfielder.

When he joined the club, Appleton was full of praise for the young man, telling the club website:

“He has quality bags in possession of the ball and he has the energy and athleticism to get on and off the field as well.”

Gotts’ performances have helped Lincoln get off to a great start to the League One campaign as they currently sit second in the table before this weekend’s game in Rochdale.

Do you think Gotts could be ready for the first team next season?

Bielsa has kept faith in young midfielder Jamie Shackleton at times this season, as the academy graduate has made three Premier League appearances this season, in which he has averaged a less-than-impressive 6.3 rating (per Who scored).

While Gotts is obviously playing a lower level, his performances have earned him the praise from Leeds fans on Twitter recentlySo if he can continue as a regular on this side of Lincoln, maybe he could challenge Shackleton for his place in Leeds’ first team when he returns.

Marcelo Bielsa is very aware of the young man, having praised their efforts after making his debut in Whites’ 1-0 loss to Arsenal last season, so there seems to be no reason why he can’t consolidate himself as a starter in the Argentine team in the future.

Leeds fans will hope that Gotts will continue to regularly introduce the Imps and help them move up to the Championship, which would be a great experience for the 21-year-old.

And, in other news … Orta must prioritize the delivery of a new contract to Bielsa’s favorite before it is too late
