With the relentless schedule once again opening up in the middle of the week, we have another night stacked on our hands. So for those of you looking to stay on an acca Tuesday, we’ve looked everywhere to find a couple of helpful tips worth keeping an eye on.
Tuesday February 23
BST 19:00 Sunderland vs Fleetwood Town
Starting with Tuesday’s hosts, while Sunderland might have been surprised by that 2-1 loss to Shrewsbury earlier in the month, Lee Johnson’s new team has bounced back in striking fashion. Finding a route back to the play-off spots and with a championship return at the top of his schedule, the former Bristol City boss saw his team put on a forceful display over the weekend. Finally working their way to a 3-0 break at Burton on Saturday afternoon, the Black Cats have now won each of their last three meetings in all formats. Smelling another opportunity when they return to the Northeast midweek, Johnson will be very excited about Charlie Wyke’s free scoring purple patch. Enjoying what has been a remarkable run of form, the 28-year-old was back on the roster against Burton over the weekend. With no player in League One scoring more goals than Bradford’s former forward, Wyke has found the net in his last three games on the rebound. Pocketing six goals in that impressive streak, including four against Doncaster earlier in the month, it should also be noted that the Sunderland MVP has 13 goals in his last 11 appearances across all formats. Given Fleetwood’s widespread troubles, Wyke should be smelling a real opportunity midweek. By parting ways with former boss Joey Barton, Tuesday’s guests have made their way onto the League One table. In a streak of form that has seen them win just one of their last 13 straight games, it should also be noted that the Reds have earned just one point from their last five road meetings.
Tip: Charlie Wyke to score anytime @ 1/1
7:45 PM Wealdstone vs. Eastleigh
Putting on what was a professional display over the weekend, there’s no question that the mood at Camp Eastleigh should be steady. In a showdown against play-off contenders Stockport on Saturday afternoon, the Blues picked up a 1-0 home win and have an inaugural Football League campaign on their wish list. Moving up to fourth in the table, head coach Ben Strevens has really seen his team score some notable victories since the February opening. Knowing they have a real shot at four NL wins on the rebound in the middle of the week, the Hampshire team really turned heads when they scored a 2-1 win against a high-flying Hartlepool on February 16. With the possibility of potentially beating the Pools on Tuesday night, it should be noted that Eastleigh is undefeated in each of their last seven fifth-tier matchups on the turn. Racking up a very impressive 17 points in their recent purple patch, the Strevens team were also last seen on their travels, clinching a 2-1 win against Boreham Wood. On the other hand, while Eastleigh might be leading the play-off chase, Wealdstone still finds himself looking firmly over his shoulder at the drop zone. Holding only a four-point buffer over the bottom three, Tuesday’s hosts showed another hugely troubling display over the weekend. Surprised thanks to a 4-1 at the hands of Sutton, the NL rookies have accumulated just one point from their last six meetings at the fifth level.
Tip: Eastleigh win @ 6/5
19:45 Luton Town vs Millwall
Starting with Tuesday’s guests, while Millwall might have been disappointed to have had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate against Wycombe over the weekend, the Lions have managed to impress over the past month. Finding a route back to the top half of the table, Gary Rowett’s team is enjoying an eight-game unbeaten streak in the Championship, a streak dating back to mid-December. With his recent resurgence highlighted by what was a 4-1 hit against Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the month, the former Derby boss will also be boosted by his team’s recent road shows. Last seen outside of South London picking up an impressive 2-1 win against play-off contenders Reading, Milwall has accumulated seven points in his last three Championship away games. While any chance of a late charge in the top six may seem a bit out of reach, Rowett’s men should be smelling a golden opportunity to extend their recent unbeaten streak by midweek. In addition to a 2-0 win when they met Luton in the reverse game in October, the Lions are undefeated in each of their last eight straight meetings against the hosts on Tuesday. On the other hand, hit with a 3-0 drumming against Stoke over the weekend, the Hatters have made their way up the Championship table. Suffering back-to-back losses over the past week, Nathan Jones’s team has also managed to win just one of their last seven matchups across all formats. Also, continuing to show a number of problems at home, Luton could face another tough test when his London rivals visit Kenilworth Road in the middle of the week.
