It was wonderful to see how Tuesday night turned out for Neco Williams, with the Liverpool ace’s brilliant display against Ajax that kept him from harsh abuse.
Williams is currently more involved due to the injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold, which has left the Wales international as utility James Milner as the team’s only right-back options.
The 19-year-old Williams delivered a brilliant assist via a dangerous cross from his weaker left foot before Curtis Jones’s decisive goal, this also marked a bit of club history for the Merseyside team.
Williams has taken to Twitter to like a ‘thank you’ post from @LFC_Tonks that bears the caption ‘f ** k the haters’ – an appropriate message for Williams given the season he has endured to date.
The winger conceded the penalty that Neal Maupay missed for Brighton on a lucky break, while Williams shut down his social media after facing vile abuse from Liverpool fans following a 7-2 Carabao Cup win over Lincoln at the end of September.
It’s good that the promising full-back is making a solid display after all the abuse he’s had to deal with so far this season, much of which has been unjustified.
Williams is not Trent Alexander-Arnold, nobody is, that’s what makes him so special, Neco shouldn’t have to face harsh criticism as a result of the high standards Trent has left fans accustomed to.
