Sadio Mane says “everything is fine” after he was taken to hospital after an ugly head-on collision during Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations victory over Cape Verde.

Mane’s brilliant blow broke the deadlock as Aliou Cisse’s team defeated stubborn opponents 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.

However, Senegal striker Mane was replaced shortly after and it appears to still be feeling the effects of a previous collision with Vozinha.

When he chased a bouncing ball on the edge of the penalty area, Mane collided with Cape Verde’s goalkeeper, who was rejected after intervention by VAR.

A photograph – posted on the official Africa Cup of Nations Twitter account – revealed that Vozinha visited the Liverpool striker in hospital after the match.

By sharing the photo on Instagram, Mane told his 9.1 million followers: “Everything is fine. Thank you all for the messages.”

He will now hope to be in shape for the quarter-finals, where Senegal will play against either Mali or Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

Captain Kalidou Koulibaly said after the match, quoted by the Senegalese sports website wiwsport.com: “Sadio Mane has to do some tests. We’ve had him on the phone and he says he’s okay. He did not want to come out “but no risks should be taken. He is an important player for us.”

Reports later Tuesday night said Mane had been discharged from the hospital.
