Arsenal legend Michael Thomas has praised the exciting young Emile Smith Rowe as he continues to shine in Mikel Arteta’s first team.
Arteta has recently given the Gunners star more chances, giving the team a real boost as his creativity fills the void left by Mesut Ozil.
Smith Rowe’s introduction to the team has also coincided with the improvement of Arsenal’s overall form, with the 20-year-old helping the North London giants beat Chelsea, Brighton and West Brom.
Thomas is understandably excited about Smith Rowe’s potential, as he spoke to Caught offside about the qualities that make it special.
The former Arsenal midfielder meets Smith Rowe after previously seeing him at the academy, and has nothing but high praise for his skill and pace of work.
“I’m very impressed with Emile Smith Rowe and the ease with which he made the move to the first team,” said Thomas. Caught offside.
“I have seen him a lot in the academy and it is undeniable that he has great talent. For me, his vision, the choice of pass along with his pace of work are exceptional.
“He sees things and doesn’t shy away from trying anything.”
Arsenal fans will hope this additional spark in the offensive midfield department can help get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back to his best after his recent goal drought.
Thomas believes Aubameyang’s improvement should come if Arsenal continue to perform well, while also addressing the possibility that Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli will have more opportunities on Arteta’s side.
“If Arsenal keep playing and winning games, there is no doubt that Aubameyang will return to his most dangerous level very soon,” said Thomas. Caught offside. “Right now luck isn’t with him, but it’s definitely not because he doesn’t want to not try.”
Pepe will have his chances but his consistency needs to improve. Too many times you’re not sure what Pepe is out to play and Arteta needs players he can trust.
“Martinelli is a magnificent player and I love seeing him. He has it all, but he just came back from a long injury, so I’m sure Arteta will make it easier to get more minutes. “
