Linked to a signing by the Catalan club, the forward says he may not be underway in January

Lyon star Memphis Depay said he could finish the season with the Ligue 1 giants after being tied to Barcelona for most of the summer.

Depay remains linked to a Barça signing, and could be ready to leave for free as his contract with Lyon expires at the end of the season.

The Dutch international’s ties to Barça have been greatly enhanced by his relationship with Ronald Koeman, who coached Depay with the Dutch national team before taking over the La Liga giants this summer.

Having played 59 international matches, Depay has scored 21 goals for the Netherlands, ranking third at the 2014 World Cup in Russia.

Depay scored twice in Lyon’s 3-2 win over Lens on Wednesday, when they moved three points clear at the top.

While linked to a move, Depay said he can still finish the campaign with Lyon rather than leave this month before his contract expires.

“I’m happy here. We have a great team, I really like the president, we’ll see what happens,” he told Canal + after Wednesday’s victory.

“The president and I know what happened in the last four seasons. Let’s go ahead and enjoy my presence. Maybe I’ll be here until the end of the season.

“Let’s focus on the game on Saturday, let’s be happy, we have a great team.”

Only Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé (16) has been directly involved in more Ligue 1 goals than Depay (14) this season.

But no player has created more opportunities than Depay’s 42 for top-flight Lyon.

Depay has also created 10 great opportunities, and only Marseille forward Florian Thauvin (12) and PSG striker Angel Di Maria (11) have created more.

The Dutch star originally moved to Lyon in 2017 after struggling to make his way with Manchester United.

Depay moved to Old Trafford in 2015, but scored just seven goals in 53 appearances during his time in England.

Since arriving in France, Depay has shot 64 goals in 155 games, helping Lyon reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

As things stand, Lyon will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Rennes.
