Dejan Kulusevski believes the Tottenham Hotspur staff have unleashed his potential after promising to prove people wrong during his time at the club.
Kulusevski joined the Premier League team in the winter transfer window, loaned out from Juventus. There are various factors that can make the transfer permanent. It seems like a preference for everyone involved.
The winger has made a good impression since he started his Tottenham Hotspur spell. So far for the club, he has delivered six assists and three goals from 14 games.
For comparison, in the first half of the season with Juventus, he got some space in the team. Therefore, he reached only two goals and three assists from 27 games there.
Kulusevski has already started more games for Tottenham this season than he did for Juventus. As such, the Swedish international has fulfilled its goal of “proving people wrong” back in Turin.
He told Tottenham’s official website: “I think I wanted to show everyone what I could do. I think I might have been even more motivated. I love to prove people wrong, so I was very hungry when I came here.
“But I still knew it would be very, very difficult to get to a new league and everything that comes with it. A lot of things had to click, and honestly, everything has clicked so well.
“With the coaches, they found the perfect position for me, so I can have the ball a lot, attack the goal and have opportunities to score goals and assist my teammates.
“I think you can see that when I play, I play freely, without really thinking, without worrying about mistakes, I just play my game. That’s when I play best. I’m happy, when I can do it.
Kulusevski thanks the Tottenham teammates
“And my teammates have been fantastic. From the first day I got a really warm welcome, and on the pitch we have fun together – it’s very good. I also knew some of them from before.
“The most important thing is that we have fun off the field and we are like a family and then everything is easier on the field.”
Tottenham’s form since Kulusevski’s arrival – though not the only factor – has improved. Now the team is battling for a return to the top four, which seemed like a difficult task earlier in the season.
With six games left of their season, Tottenham have a three-point cushion in fourth place. Rivals Arsenal have a match in hand over them, but Spurs’ goal difference is still better for now.
Kulusevski gained Champions League experience with Juventus and would hope for more of the same with Tottenham next season.
