During Matt Law’s briefing in Chelsea for the Telegraph, gave an update on the club’s interest in West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.
While the Blues managed to attract the vast majority of their top summer targets, they did not recruit a natural midfielder, something they lack on the squad today.
According to the Telegraph, West Ham United and England’s Declan Rice were of interest to Chelsea, but their £ 80 million price tag meant the deal was not viable for the West London giants.
Despite that, or so Matt Law writes for the Telegraph, Rice continues to top Lampard’s transfer wish list. Chelsea’s all-time top scorer seems determined to sign the former Blues academy player.
Rice shares are on the rise after his inclusion in the England squad, so it’s hard to see West Ham move at the £ 80 million asking price. It is equally difficult to see Chelsea paying that.
While Lampard may wish the Rice acquisition, it doesn’t seem plausible, at least not today. For now, Chelsea should consider cheaper alternatives.
