The departure of Tyreek Hills leaves a huge gap at the receiver for the Chiefs. Completing this surprising trade for Laviska Shenault could help Kansas City fill the void.
Chiefs waste no time trying to fill Tyreek Hills shoes. Andy Reid and the team’s front office are already making inquiries to see if the Jaguars are willing to part with Laviska Shenault to give the team’s offense a much – needed boost.
The previous pick in the second round got 63 catches to 619 yards for a Jacksonville offense that fought fiercely on multiple fronts. It is easy to imagine a sharp increase in production for Shenault if he is allowed to move to the comfortable framework of the Chiefs’ offensive system.
Chiefs rumors: Could Laviska Shenault be a Tyreek Hill replacement?
The real question is whether the Jaguars will entertain barter deals on their young weapons. He’s exactly the kind of receiver the team should look to retain to help ease Trevor Lawrence’s transition to the NFL. If the Chiefs really want to pry Shenault away from the new Jacksonville regime, they’ll have to come up with a strong trade offer.
Kansas City might want to entertain the idea of sharing with one of their late first-round picks in this year’s draft to consume a deal. Either the overall selection No. 29 or No. 30 may be enough to satisfy the Jaguars. The Chiefs may very well think that Shenault has a better chance of developing into a true No. 1 receiver than any rookie they can pick up late in Round 1.
Shenault is not so much reminiscent of Hill in terms of his style, but he can come in as an instant starter on the outside of Kansas City’s attack. He has a good size, speed and fluid ability to run a wide range of routes from the perimeter. He’s not as explosive as Hill over the top, but few receivers in the NFL can boast that type of elite speed.
Chiefs fans should expect to see their team associated with quite a few receivers as the draft approaches. Making a smart move for Shenault could represent one of the best possible results for Kansas City in the wake of the Hill deal.
