Ajax director of football, Marc Overmars, has criticized Daniel Levy for pricing his side out of a move for Steven Bergwijn – but indicates that a future move may still be on the cards.

Bergwijns career in north london has been a stop-start affair. He made a dazzling debut in a win over Manchester City before the injuries hit to hamper his progress.

However, the former PSV man made a fantastic impression from the bench in the recent win at Leicester, where he scored twice in the break to secure a remarkable 3-2 triumph.

It led to Antonio Conte reveals his admiration for the playerwhich he did not intend to leave.

That said, Ajax continued with their interest in Bergwijn and reached out to Spurs to find out what fee they would apply for him.

And after telling the Dutch giants that Bergwijn would cost a fee of £ 20.8 million (€ 25 million), Ajax were priced out of a deal.

Now Overmars has come clean on their interest – and has called Levy out for his appreciation of the winger.

“It’s no secret that we’ve been busy getting Steven Bergwijn to Ajax, now and for the future,” said Overmars. Ajax’s official website.

“However, one must also remain realistic. Each club has had two tough years. We as management found it in this uncertain time to implement the entire financial package properly. ”

Overmars concerns over Bergwijn fee

Overmars suggests that Premier League prices have a big impact on the game.

But referring to the example of Sebastien Haller, he insists that there are great deals to be found if the clubs are prepared to be realistic.

“Normally you push. We have no problem investing in football. Like last year with Sebastien Haller, it was fine, ”he added.

“We want to do that as soon as possible, but now the time is uncertain. It all gets more and more crazy financially. You expect a slightly realistic look at things, but you can see that it will not be less in terms of contract. ”

Overmars then suggested that Bergwijn remain on Ajax ‘agenda’ for the future ‘and that a new approach to summer may be on the cards.

Dejan Kulusevski reveals Premier League player he idolizes

Spurs new boy Dejan Kulusevski, meanwhile, admits he is trying to model his game on Kevin De Bruyne.

He told Sky Italia,as quoted by The sun: “I study Kevin De Bruyne a lot because he is a phenomenal player and because I want to be like him.

“It depends on the team, on the game. For how we play in Parma, the coach has found the perfect position for me – as a winger.

“When I was in Primavera in Atalanta, on the other hand, I played more in the middle. This is because the action should start from the back.

“My perfect role? Behind the strikers. When I play, I do not think about goals or assists.

“With the ball, I always think offensively, to the fact that the defenders need to know who they are dealing with. That said, I need to improve on shooting more often and also on scoring more. “
