The second clash of matchday 10 of the Indian Super League was another intriguing battle, as seventh-ranked Chennaiyin FC took on Hyderabad FC, which was just one place below them in the standings. The Marina Machans were unbeaten in their last four games, but had drawn three of those games, while the visiting team had lost each of their last three games after an undefeated start.

Both sides were looking for a crucial victory in this important showdown, and this is what we did:

In 30 seconds, Aridane sent Joel Chianese down the right, but Vishal Kaith kept his shot low. Ten minutes later, Odei Onaindia had a free header from close range when Halicharan Narzary’s free kick hit him, but his contact missed and missed wide.

The biggest chance of the match came in the 23rd minute when Mohammed Yasir stormed down the right and shot with his left foot, but his effort went straight to the goalkeeper. However, he spilled it and allowed Chianese to shoot away, but more importantly, he redeemed himself by touching the shot and watching it go.

Chennaiyin FC’s first big opportunity came in the 31st minute, when Lallianzuala Chhangte deftly edged past a pair of defenders to cut in from the left and opened up a shooting angle inside the area, but his effort was well blocked off Laxmikant’s foot. Kattimani.

Hyderabad FC somehow failed to take the lead in the 44th minute when Vishal Kaith parried a low cross from Asish Rai, but only fell to Joel Chianese, whose shot from close range was blocked by the keeper again. Rai had a follow-up hit, but his effort hit the crossbar and out.

Finally, in the 50th minute, Hyderabad FC took the lead when an Eli Sabiá punt attempt hit Chianese and overtook the speedy Vishal Kaith, allowing the Australian forward to literally walk the ball into the net.

Three minutes later, the ball broke for Aridane on the edge of the box after a half-cleared corner kick, but his bottom corner effort was well saved by Vishal Kaith. However, the ball only broke for Halicharan Narzary on the left, who absolutely hit it.

Chennaiyin FC slashed a goal in the 67th minute when Laxmikant Kattimani was unable to grab a low and helpless cross from Reagan Singh, allowing Anirudh Thapa to deflect the ball into an empty net.

In the 74th minute, Hyderabad FC regained its two-goal cushion. Francisco Sandaza had a shot saved from a heads up, but the ball only broke for Mohammad Yasir. He left it for João Victor, whose first effort from the edge of the area came to the top corner.

Five minutes later, Halicharan Narzary burst into the goal from the midline and ignored the two players to his left to put his shot past Vishal Kaith and make it a four for Hyderabad.

Hyderabad came home thereafter as they walked away with a 4-1 win.

Key talking point

A general disaster

With Rafael Crivellaro injured, Chennaiyin FC knew they would need other creators to take a step forward in this match.

Csaba László made a small adjustment to make up for the loss of his Brazilian star when he switched from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 with Anirudh Thapa pushing further from midfield. They also had Jakub Sylvestr on the wing, a man averaging 2.8 key passes per game prior to this game. However, nothing seemed to work in attack for them in the first half, as they created almost nothing.

Fortunately for them, however, Hyderabad FC missed a number of great opportunities at the other end and the scores were tied at the break. Chennaiyin was apparently offended by his opponents’ recreation of their favorite trick, so they decided to gift them a goal. After that, the floodgates were opened and, although a little hope was generated after Anirudh Thapa’s goal, it was quickly nullified.

This was a terrible show from Marina Machans in almost every respect, and they have a lot to work on before their next match.

Player Ratings

Vishal Kaith (5.5), Reagan Singh (4.5), Eli Sabiá (4.5), Enes Sipović (4), Jerry Lalrinzuala (5), Anirudh Thapa (7.5 *), Deepak Tangri (4.5), Memo (5.5), Rahim Ali (5), Jakub Sylvestr (5), Lallianzuala Chhangte (5.5)

Key talking point

A crucially emphatic victory

After a surprisingly good unbeaten start to the season, Hyderabad FC began to lose a lot of momentum as they were beaten in each of their last three matches.

However, if there was ever a way to recover from that, it was surely this. They could easily have opened the scoring in the first half when they, and Joel Chianese in particular, had a string of great chances, but Vishal Kaith proved unbeatable and the goal remained elusive. However, the good news was that his defense was largely unchallenged, so conceding was not an issue in the first period.

For their previous efforts, the Nizams gained a deserved but fortunate lead early in the second half when Chianese received a gift. However, there was no element of fortune involved from then on as they worked their way forward. Halicharan Narzary scored a goal and although Laxmikant Kattimani made a terrible mistake by making it 2-1, his team kept moving forward and two more big goals sealed the deal.

This was a magnificent performance from Hyderabad, arguably the best of the season, and it also came at the perfect time.

Player Ratings

Laxmikant Kattimani (3.5), Asish Rai (8), Odei Onaindia (7), Chinglensana Singh (6), Akash Mishra (7), Joao victor (8.5 *), Souvik Chakrabarti (5.5), Mohammad Yasir (7.5), Halicharan Narzary (8), Joel Chianese (7), Aridane Santana (6.5)

Subs: Lluís Sastre (7), Francisco Sandaza (N / A), Liston Colaco (N / A), Hitesh Sharma (N / A), Adil Khan (N / A)

Narzary of Halicharan

Hyderabad had been struggling lately, but one man who was constant throughout was Halicharan Narzary.

Tonight, he received his just reward for all the hard work in the form of an excellent brace. He didn’t really get a chance in the first half, but when the ball broke favorably for him in the opening stages of the second period, he hit it as purely as ever and found the back of the net. His second wasn’t bad either, covering half the distance of the field before coldly passing Vishal Kaith.

The 26-year-old winger finished the game with 51 touches, 78% passing accuracy, 5 crosses and 2 two-goal shots.

A hot show.

What does this mean:

Chennaiyin FC fell to eighth place, while Hyderabad FC climbed to sixth thanks to Halicharan Narzary’s first double of the season and Joel Chianese’s first goal in the ISL. We had five goals in the half for the first time this campaign, as Anirudh Thapa and João Victor also got on the spot with their second goals of the season.

Chennaiyin FC will face Odisha FC next Sunday, while Hyderabad FC will face NorthEast United on Friday.
