Chelsea striker Armando Broja has received rave reviews in Southampton this season, delivering yet another impressive performance in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United – turning Harry Maguire upside down with a memorable touchdown.
A product of the Blues’ famous academy, English-born Broja enjoys an excellent loan period on the south coast.
The 20-year-old has six goals in 20 appearances – the youngest playing to reach that figure in the current Premier League campaign – with the 6-foot-2 striker reaping the rewards of a decision to spend that period on loan at the Saints.
After a slow start, the Albanian national team player has really come to life, and his form at one point led to some Chelsea fans urging him to be called back to challenge Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner for a starting spot in the attack.
His performance at Old Trafford would have done nothing to deter these Chelsea supporters. Broja was a handful all afternoon despite not getting on the finish line.
And he gave United captain Maguire more than enough to keep the English defender busy.
Towards the end of the match, Broja picked up the ball on the left wing and turned Maguire completely upside down, making the United defender look foolish.
Unfortunately, the young player hesitated when you expected him to shoot, allowing Maguire to come back and barge the player over before he herded the ball out to a goal kick.
United took the lead through Jadon Sancho, but were beaten back by Che Adams’ equalizer for Southampton, and a draw was likely the right result.
With Broja in this form, it should not be too long before Chelsea are forced to decide whether he will play in their first team or be sold elsewhere. There would be lots of people for him.
