The midfielder is heading to the San Siro for another season as he has seen his chances for first team limited at Stamford Bridge

AC Milan have signed midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko on a two-year loan deal from Chelsea.

The deal includes an obligation to make the move permanent for around € 15m. (£ 13m / $ 18m).

The 27-year-old is returning to Milan for another loan as he had played 42 games for the club during the 2018-19 campaign.

Details of Bakayoko features

In a statement confirming the deal, Milan said “AC Milan are delighted to announce that midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has signed from Chelsea FC on a two-year loan, which could become a commitment if certain conditions are met.”

As previously reported by Goal, Chelsea will also extend Bakayoko’s contract until June 2024 to avoid losing him on a free at the end of his current deal, which should expire next season.

The bigger picture

The move will put an end to a frustrating stay in west London for Bakayoko, who cost around £ 40m ($ 55m) when he moved from Monaco in 2017 – then Chelsea’s second most expensive signing.

Despite appearing in 43 competitions in all competitions and helping the Blues win the FA Cup, the French farmer was sent to Milan the following summer.

Additional loan periods in Monaco and Napoli have followed as it became increasingly clear that he had no long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

He will be the third Chelsea player to move to AC Milan in this window after Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud completed permanent transfers earlier this summer.
