Chelsea are currently considering which of two midfield sensations to pursue, but are prioritizing their wingback problem, according to a report.

The Blues obviously planning a great summer with transfers. But their injury problems have put them in front of a difficult task for the January transfer window, which was not on the agenda.

First-round stars Ben Chilwell and Reece James both have slightly ugly injuries. The pair have been crucial to Thomas Tuchel this season.

But the German manager could do without Chilwell for the rest of the campaign and James for several weeks.

Chelsea responds Goal, Nizaar Kinsella, reports that the club is seeking to recall Emerson Palmieri from Lyon as a first priority.

The left-back joined the Ligue 1 team on loan for the season last summer. He is with us regularly, so it may be impossible to ensure his return.

Everton’s deflected defender Lucas Digne is another option. Alternatively, you can apply for another loan.

For the right side of the defense, it is a potential game to recall Blackpool loaned Dujon Sterling. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic are able to replace otherwise.

While these decisions are being made, the long-term goals of Declan Rice and Aurelien Tchouameni are being considered.

Both are fancy of the Blues hierarchy, but Rice, 22, is a much more familiar target than 21-year-old Monaco midfielder Tchouameni.

As such, their scouts follow the Frenchman very closely. They are said to go so far as to analyze his attitude and personal life.

His performance in Ligue 1 increases interest from Stamford Bridge. They could come up with a bid at the end of the season.

Kinsella claims, however, that it is unlikely he and Rice will both be signed. That’s because Tuchel wants to integrate Conor Gallagher into the side when he returns from Crystal Palace.

Lukaku apologizes to Chelsea

Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku has released an apology video to Chelsea fans, outlining his plan to recover from his bomb interview.

In a Twitter clip titled ‘A Message from Romelu’, Lukaku said: “To the fans, I’m sorry for the disturbance I caused.

“You know the connection I have had with this club since my teenage years. So I understand that you are sad.

“Of course, it’s up to me now to restore your confidence, and I will do my best to show commitment every day on the training ground and in the matches, and try to ensure that we win matches.
