Chelsea may be disappointed in their hunt for French prodigy Mohamed-Ali Cho.

The teenage center-forward, who can also operate on both wings, got off to an impressive start to the campaign at Ligue 1 club Angers. He reached the finish line in victories over Rennes and Metz.

Cho’s exciting exhibitions got him stamped as a ‘revelation’ by the French media. They also resulted in transfer links with Chelsea, AC Milan and Atletico.

Diego Simeone’s team began the case in October a formal approach. But Angers held on and asked Atletico to come back with a better offer.

Cho’s future is apparently decided, though he does not want to move to Wanda Metropolitano.

Goal, citing French source Fod Mercato, reports Borussia Dortmund is ‘set to sign’ the player.

They have made ‘concrete progress’ in recent days and are nearing the conclusion of a € 20 million (£ 16.7 million) deal.

17-year-old Cho looks set to be announced as a Dortmund player this month. He will spend the rest of the campaign continuing his development in Angers, according to the report.

Dortmund have a reputation for nurturing young talent, as former stars Mario Gotze and Jadon Sancho show. Chelsea have also benefited from the German club’s system, with Christian Pulisic joining the Blues for £ 58 million in January 2019.

Despite the setback, Thomas Tuchel still has a number of options to lead his attack. Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are all at his disposal.

Belgian assassin Lukaku is eager to win fans back after his recent comments about Tuchel’s system and a potential return to Inter.

Update on the Chelsea chase

Meanwhile, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Chelsea’s hunt for Lucas Digne.

The Everton man may be on the move after hitting alongside manager Rafa Benitez in early December.

Romano says Chelsea have an interest in the left-back, but that he has not yet started discussions. Newcastle have never been a potential suitor, according to Romano’s tweet.

A separate update from online source Football Insider puts Aston Villa in the mix to pick up Digne.

Steven Gerrard will apparently want a top-quality defender to compete with Matt Targett. Villans have contacted Everton as a result.
