Arsenal fans have been told that they are unrealistic in thinking that the club should be a challenge towards the top end of the Premier League.
The Gunners are currently 10th in the table, 11 points behind the Champions League rankings.
Manager Mikel Arteta has come under fire from some Arsenal fans, but borrowed Queens Park Rangers forward Charlie Austin believes the criticism is unjustified.
“Can you please the Arsenal fans?” he said talkSPORT. “(Arsene) Wenger was there for so long, but suddenly they hit him like he was a flop, so he leaves.
Another manager enters, (Unai) Emery, they did not like it and Arteta enters and now he is to blame.
“Look at your squad. Is your team good enough to finish in the top four? Simple answer, no.
“Is your team good enough in the top six right now in the Premier League? Do not! Well there you have it, your gear is not good enough.
“We are not talking about titles, we are not even talking about the top four or even the top six. Is this Arsenal team good enough to finish in the top half of the Premier League? That is the question for Arsenal now ”.
Austin is right: the Arsenal team just isn’t good enough. However, to suggest that Arteta is innocent of the current situation is misplaced.
The Spaniard has had three transfer windows to improve Arsenal’s luck and current evidence suggests he is not delivering.
If nothing else, a club of the stature of Arsenal should challenge the top six without a hitch. Given where they are right now, fans have every right to question Arteta.
In other news, this Arsenal star has been linked to a summer move to France.
