The Bengaluru FC manager affirmed the importance of not conceding goals that amplify a team’s chances of winning a draw …
Udanta Singh has fought for playing time in the seventh edition of the Indian Super League (ISL). The right-back has a goal in 254 minutes and has only started in three starts.
Although he missed the last game against Jamshedpur FC due to a hit, he has not been able to replicate or come close to his best form from the 2018-19 season when Bengaluru FC claimed their first ISL title. Udanta played an important role in that campaign, scoring five important goals and starting 19 games.
Bengaluru FC coach Carles Cuadrat supported the Manipuri player to do well in the next matches, but did mention that he has a lot of work to do when making decisions.
“He wasn’t in the last game because he had a muscle problem. He is one of my favorite players and he knows that he has to improve his decision making. He has my support and will be available in the next game, ”said Cuadrat.
Bengaluru FC had a week-long break since their last loss to Jamshedpur FC and Cuadrat noted that it has helped him spend more time with the players to revive his ‘dynamic’. He also spoke about the need to score goals from different players rather than just focusing on a select few.
“We had more time this week and we will try to fight for the three points again. In the last two games, the team was trying to create some scoring chances, but unfortunately we lost some dynamics. The good thing is that we got some goals from other players. That means that the team is working to get goals from different players and it does not depend on a specific player, ”he said.
Bengaluru FC, like most teams in the ISL, have not been at their best this season. He has scored 11 goals in eight games and is fifth in the table. When you compare their goalscoring statistics with those of ATK Mohun Bagan, who are the league leaders, the Kolkata club has 10 goals in nine matches.
However, it is their defense that has leaked this season as they have let in nine goals, while the top two teams in the league have conceded a third of those.
“It’s not about being disappointed. When you score, you are closer to scoring again because you force the other team out. If you watch the last game, we were really creating a lot of opportunities in the other game and there was room for our players.
“We also have to be better not to concede because you have lost two games 1-0. When you concede, you can lose. The boys understand it and are working very positively, ”he explained.
The Spanish coach highlighted the importance of scoring the first goal of this season and reiterated that the strength of his team lies in its defensive structure.
“We see that in any league. For example, the match between Chelsea and Man City was very close. After they (Man City) got the first goal, things happened. So we try to create those kinds of opportunities and prevent the other team from coming back. We are a team that is measured with a good defensive structure ”, he pointed out.
Sergio Lobera doesn’t have a great record against Bengaluru FC since his time at FC Goa. Indeed, in seven encounters over the course of three seasons, Lobera’s Goa could only muster one victory, which was when Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was sent off.
“We have been playing against each other for a long time. In the city of Mumbai he has been creating the same type of football and has brought some players from Goa to Mumbai. They are in a good dynamic but we all have a plan and I am sure that we will give a good show as we have been doing so far ”, he promised.
