Calvin Ridley has been suspended for the 2022 season for betting on NFL games. The Falcons receiver responded to the news and the riot.
The NFL world was hit by a shock on Monday. After missing much of the 2021 season for the Atlanta Falcons when he stepped down due to mental health issues, star receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for the 2022 season due to betting on NFL games.
According to several reports and a statement from the NFL, Ridley placed a number of parlays via his phone while out of the state of Georgia (presumably in a state where sports betting is legal), which included his team, the Falcons. However, the NFL’s statement also said that their investigation concluded that Ridley had no influence on the outcome of games.
With the NFL world in revolt over the suspension and the news, Ridley took to Twitter to try to fix the record, saying the amount he was betting and clarifying that he did not have a “gambling problem”.

After his first tweet, Ridley went on to explain himself mildly, saying he “could not even watch football” when betting on NFL games.
He followed this up by saying that the suspension would only allow him to be fully healthy when he can potentially return in the 2023 season.
It is worth noting that it is not guaranteed that Ridley will be able to return for the 2023 season. He must apply for resumption in February 2023 for that to happen.
That said, this is a wild development in the NFL, especially with the free agency and the NFL Draft threatening the league in the near future. And rest assured, this will not be the last we hear about Calvin Ridley and his suspension either.
