The Tanzania team will now play Sudan’s Al Hilal Obeid in the next phase of the competition.

Namungo FC have qualified for the second preliminary round of the Caf Confederation Cup after Al Rabita due to the latter’s violation of regulations.

The South Sudan federation was unable to secure tickets for matchday officials as required, and the African Football Confederation (Caf) had no choice but to hand over a walkover to the visitors.

“South Sudan’s governing body for soccer failed to comply with regulations before the match, and Caf had no choice but to cancel the match, which pushed Namungo FC forward in the competition.” The communications officer of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Clifford Ndimbo, explained.

Despite advancing to the next stage, Namungo head coach Hemed Morocco was not amused by the fact that his team could not play the match.

The strategist wanted to use the game to test his tactics so that the team had a better chance of reaching the third preliminary round.

“This is a big blow for us,” Morocco said. “We won the first match 3-0 and we had every chance to qualify for the next round.

“I was looking forward to the second leg to assess what we learned from training in the meantime.

“There are technical contributions that my players had ready to apply in the meeting with Al Rabita – contributions from a special training before the game.”

After advancing, the Tanzania FA Cup finalists will play Al Hilal Obeid in the next round and the tactician has already started preparing for the game.

“We are competing in the Confederation Cup for the first time. Therefore, each team is new to us and we have to train hard. We are ready to face any team,” he concluded.

In the first leg, the debutants scored their first goal in the 20th minute courtesy of Stephen Sey.

Sey scored again 19 minutes later after circling Rabita’s goalkeeper to stab home the second goal. They had not finished yet as Shiza Kichuya assured that they won with a resounding result by scoring the third goal in the 64th minute.

While Namungo will play in the Caf Confederation Cup, current league champion Simba SC will also play in the second preliminary round of the Caf Champions League after eliminating Plateau United.
