Wekundu wa Msimbazi will travel to Zimbabwe for their next round match after saying goodbye to the Peace Boys on Saturday.

Tanzanian champions Simba SC will face FC Platinum in the next round of the Caf Champions League.

the Wekundu wa Msimbazi they qualified for the next phase of the competition after achieving a 1-0 aggregate victory against Plateau United of Nigeria.

Simba won the first leg in Abuja 1-0 thanks to a goal from Clatous Chama and claimed a 0-0 draw in the second leg at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

On the other hand, Platinum reached the next round with a 4-1 aggregate victory after eliminating Mozambique’s Costa de Sol. The Zimbabwean champions won the first leg in Maputo 2-1 before claiming a 2-0 victory in the second leg in Harare on Saturday.

Against Plateau United on Saturday, Simba’s coach Sven Vandenbroeck deployed quite a defensive lineup against the Peace Boys, as John Bocco, Chama and Luis Miquissone were the only outright attacking players.

With Joash Onyango unavailable, Erasto Nyoni was called up to the starting eleven as he has been absent from league games, with the Kenyan international the preferred option since his arrival.

Nyoni was fortunate to keep the Nigerian team at bay alongside Serge Wawa, with whom he had established an imperious partnership in the rear before Onyango’s arrival.

With Gerson Fraga out with a long-lasting injury, Muzamiru Yassin was preferred to Said Ndemla in midfield, who also boasted an ever-present Jonas Mkude, as well as Hassan Dilunga.

Meddie Kagere, who is in a rush to get back into full shape, started on the bench alongside the attacking duo of Francis Kahata and Bernard Morrison.

Gor Mahia was the first East African team to move from the preliminary round to the first round after beating the Rwandan APR. Ensured a 3-1 victory over the Rwandan army K’Ogalo booked a place in the second round by coming back from a 2-1 setback suffered in the first game.

After Simba and Gor Mahia did their part, eyes will now turn to Vipers SC of Uganda, who will face Al-Hilal Omdurman of Sudan on Sunday. The Venoms face the great task of reversing a 1-0 scoreline that was recorded at St Mary’s Kitende in the opening game.

The first leg of Simba vs Platinum will be played on December 22 or 23 in Zimbabwe and the return match is scheduled for the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on January 5 or 6, 2021.
